Valentine’s Day 101
It’s that time of the year of again: Romantic comedies are flooding the big screen. Girls have that starry look in their eyes. Chocolate, balloons, and heart-shaped candy are everywhere in sight. And guys are thinking “shit, what should I do for Valentine’s day?”
Here are four fail-proof ways to ensure that you have a happy girlfriend on this fateful day:
1. The element of surprise.
Okay, so it’s not really a surprise. She will be expecting you to surprise her on this day, but play along. Think about showing up at her work, hiding her gift in her locker, or pretending that a small thing is your gift to her when really more is coming. A great idea is usually a gift within a gift, like giving her the dvd of her favourite Disney movie, then telling her you got tickets to see it on ice.
They say that it’s the way to a man’s heart, but women are not that different. Every girl loves an ultra-decadent meal on this occasion, one that she didn’t have to sweat and toil over. Cooking for her is a great idea, even if you aren’t exactly Gordon Ramsay. She’ll appreciate the effort. Don’t have time? Take her out. Just make sure she doesn’t spend any time in the kitchen today.
3. Make it personal.
Girls love it when you show them how much you know them, so thinking of ways to make your gift more personal is always a great idea. Your girlfriend names her inanimate objects? Label your gift with a name you’ve given it, like “Charlie the chocolate box”. She’ll love that you know her quirks and can make fun of them.
4. Grand romantic gestures.
This is for the truly romantic and smitten. Not every guy has the time or ability to pull these off. That being said, this is the type of thing that no girl forgets, (ever), so it might be worth a try. It’s the kind of thing you see in the movies but very rarely in real life. A serenade at her work, a declaration of your love for her in public, a hot air balloon ride… The key to pulling off this one is to think big.
Hope this helps and Happy Valentine’s day everyone!
Some easy brownie points, flowers!
