Half-truths and other travel tips
This is Jonathan, the founder of Make your Girlfriend Happy. Last weekend my girlfriend and I took a weekend trip to New York City and I learned a couple of things along the way.
First, long-weekend getaways are a great way to break the sometimes mundane routine of day-to-day life. No matter where you live, there are great places you can drive or fly to for minimal cost and a memorable escape – LA, New York, Austin, San Francisco, and of course, Montreal. To help you plan your trips, we’ll be writing romantic weekend city guides for a number of North American and European cities over the next few months – if you have some insider tips or would like to contribute, please reach out to me at email@example.com.
My girlfriend and I spent 3 days in New York City, giving us the chance to see some old friends, get out of Montréal, and taste some great food. All went smoothly and allowed both of us to share a great experience; after all, relationships are built on shared memories. Though there were no major issues hiccups, I did learn one good lesson this weekend that I would like to share: if she says something half heartedly, she probably still means it.
On the last day of the trip, we were leaving the apartment in New York to grab breakfast and I mentioned I hadn’t taken the camera. I asked if I should go get it and she hesitated – “Sure, nah, never mind”. So, we continued to the breakfast place (Red Rooster in Harlem, amazing). After brunch, we walked the very beautiful streets of Harlem and she wondered out loud why I hadn’t gone to get the camera. I explained, “You told me not to!”, and she responded, “I didn’t mean that” – I should have known better! Generally speaking, and I think it’s fair to extrapolate here, if she says something in a joking manner or hesitates, you should probably still do it.
One other tip from this trip is a simple logistics one. If you are looking for an affordable and great place to stay, I highly recommend checking out AirBnB.com. If you don’t already know, it’s a site that allows you to rent out apartments and extra rooms. We used the site this weekend and found a great deal in Harlem. So, if you’re planning a trip, I highly recommend booking on AirBnB.com.
That’s all for this week! Thanks for your ongoing support and I hope the site is helping you with your relationship. If you have any tips, comments or suggestions, please feel free to email me personally at firstname.lastname@example.org
